List Of Twitter Tools
If there is one thing I get asked all the time it’s “Can you create a page that shows me every site and 3rd party app I need to boost my Twitter skills?” So I am finally answering that calling and created this page.
The following includes just that, every site/service/3rd party app that has helped me tremendously with Twitter marketing. I have included everything I use as well as sites that I don’t use but still recommend. Some of the services overlap, some offer things that the others already do but I included them anyways to keep this list complete.
Click on the Title of the site/service to view a further breakdown of its features and click on the thumbnail image to go directly to the site!
All-in-One Advanced Profile Managers
TweetSpinner
What can I say about TweetSpinner? I came across this site recently and was blown away. It incorporates nearly every service and feature that you could ever need and then some.
- Advanced follower manager
- Profile image, bio and URL rotator
- Schedule recurring, dynamic and notification Tweets
- Anti-spam inbox/outbox, filtering and cleaning your messages
- Much much more!
SocialOomph (formerly TweetLater)
SocialOomph is an all in one Twitter manager which is similar to TweetSpinner. Features include, but are not limited to:
- In depth profile manager
- Schedule recurring and dynamic tweets
- Update social networks with latest blog posts
- Extended profile management of multiple accounts
- Tweet to more than one profile
- Auto follow those that follow you
- Auto message new followers (don’t spam!)
- Monitor profile trends
SocialOomph is an awesome service, and like I said above it is much like TweetSpinner. The difference here is that the upper level membership fees are a bit steeper and some of the free features are more limited than TweetSpinner. It is still an awesome service that deserves a look. Additionally, SocialOomph is more orientated to corporate accounts and for heavy duty marketers.
Follower and Follower Management Tools
Twollo
Twollo is here to save you a ton of time and effort by targeting Twitter users out there based on specific keyword interests that you tell Twollo. Twollo searches Twitter every hour on the hour working 24/7 to follow those users who match your interests!
There have been some recent updates to Twollo that my blog post might not cover. Recently Twollo has underwent ownership changes. Now, a free account is only limited to a handful of keyword phrases (5 for a limited time for new members) and in order to get more phrases you have to sign up for a membership. Note that this is completely okay! Though you could sign up for a paid membership and potentially get a ton of phrases to start following on but this may get you suspended! So in reality, the new limits on phrases work to your advantage by keeping you off the Twitter Suspension Radar.
Twollo, though it has changed, is still one of the most valuable sites out there for getting targeted followers specific to your business/marketing interests.
Your Twitter Karma
Twitter Karma, brought to you by dossy.org is a great service for follower management. Currently I don’t have a breakdown of Twitter Karma; partly because it is a simple service to use and needs little explanation and partly because I haven’t gotten around to doing it!
Twitter Karma works like this. When you head over to the site it will ask you for your log in info, enter it and hit “Whack!” Twitter Karma will then upload all of your followers and will show you two main statistics:
- # of followers following you whom you have not yet followed back.
- # of followers you are following who are not following you back.
Once your info is loaded you can then choose to follow or un-follow people of your choice. You can bulk un-follow or bulk follow people with one click while filtering people you wish to never un-follow or never follow.
Pros: Twitter Karma is easy to use and can make life a lot easier. It will break down your following and allow for easy management with minimal fear of getting suspended.
Cons: Twitter Karma does not work well if you have over 10,000 followers. Uploading your data can take a long time and if you have over 10,000 followers it sometimes will not even work. To be honest it hasn’t been able to load my data in a long time. However it still works wonders for people with under 10,000.
3rd Party Tweeting Apps
TweetDeck
One of the first 3rd party Tweeting services I used when I came on Twitter. Tweeting from the web can get sloppy and tedious as your following grows. You end up losing tweets from your close friends and have no control over filtering and organizing the conveyor belt of updates that stream in constantly.
Tweetdeck allows you to organize followers in groups, shorten URLS with one click, add and upload images easily, filter tweets with ease and much much more!
Twhirl
Similar to Tweetdeck, Twhirl is also a 3rd party application that makes Tweeting that much easier and fun. The differences are more aesthetic than feature wise. Twhirl is a little smaller and compact than Tweetdeck. It has all the same features except for follower grouping. It really comes down to preference in terms of which one is better. Personally I prefer Twhirl but that is just me!
Twitter Analytic Tools
SearchTwitter
Search dot Twitter is a well known site that can search in real time the current trends and fads going on in the Twittersphere. Find the trending topics going on based on keywords, #hashtags and much more.
Why is SearchTwitter useful? Well for one thing it’s a great way to get exposed. The more you tweet about the most popular topics on Twitter the more traffic you’re likely to get as a result, and consequently more followers.
Though Search Twitter may be in some ways obsolete, thanks to the real time updates of popular trends now available on the homepage of Twitter (as well as on your profile page) it is still useful for searching specific users and tweets.
TwitterCounter
Twitter counter is an awesome, valuable site that will break down your account activity in a number of ways.
Simply enter your Twitter user name (or anyone’s for that matter) and it will analyze the account thoroughly.
- Shows the number of followers, number of following and number of tweets by specific user.
- Analyzes follower count based on day by day trends and predicts future amounts.
- Similarly, it analyzes the number of followings per day and predicts the future number of to be followers.
- Shows the trends of tweets, highest per day, average per week/month as well as predictions and retweets.
- Displays easy to read graphs for all of the above data.
The Banished List
The following is a list of sites that I use to recommend but are banned/removed now due to various reasons (spam, lack of use or generally sucking).
Huitter Mutuality
Huitter, which I formerly swore by but cautiously recommended (due to the fact that it could get you suspended) has now been demolished. Huitter itself is still up but the mutuality part is down. For those of you uninformed Huitter Mutuality use to be a bulk follow/un follow service that cleaned out your follow list.
The reason why it was cancelled was because of the red flags it kept shooting up to the guys over at Twitter. Following or un-following more than a few hundred people in a day are grounds for suspension. And Huitter had no limitations on how many you could follow or un-follow in one bulk sitting, tsk tsk Huitter!
TwitRobot
An awesome and unreal tool which circulated through your blog’s RSS feed and posted either randomly or sequentially your posts to Twitter is now gone.
The reasoning behind this, I am guessing, is because it is grounds for spam and was abused like there was no tomorrow. Oh well, it was nice while it lasted.
Hey! This List is Ongoing!
This list is completely ongoing and open to changes. Did you just stumble upon an awesome new service that blows one of these out of the water or maybe compliments one of them perfectly? Comment about it and tell me how much of a klutz I am for not including it! I love feedback and will happily add or remove anything you see here so don’t be afraid to speak your mind.
Also, if you have any questions about any of the services listed above leave a comment.
- Not sure how to use it?
- Unsure what it’s doing on this list?
- Need more information about whether it’s free whether it’s worth the money?
- Questioning your place in the Twittersphere? Let me hear it!

As always a great, easy to read, timely post. Would havebeen good to some some pricing comparisons!
i’m a big fan of hootsuite… very similar to tweetdeck but nothing to install and the interface is friendlier (imho).
HootSuite is a cool site – I’ve used it before. Thanks for the input I might just slap that on here.
That’s a good idea, most of these are free services but some have membership options. For the most part they are very cheap and affordable.
Nate, thanks for the info on the site. You’re very knowledgeable and we appreciate your insights. Not long ago I recall seeing a twitter tool that allowed you to send a personal message to your followers in a mass mailing method. So instead of visiting each follower’s site, you used the tool to send them a personal message. Do you know of this tool? If so, can you tell me where to find it? Going crazy trying to find that again. Thanks. Enrique Garibay
Thanks for your feedback – in terms of that tool I’ll say this. TweetSpinner and Socialoopmh have an auto message tool you can use to send messages to new followers as they follow you. careful with this as you should never spam them or include a link to your opportunity.
But I think you are referring to a different tool – are you talking of a tool that allows you to send one message to as many followers as you can? If so I would recommend you never use this tool for a number of reasons; mainly because your followers won’t like this and that you just might get banned by Twitter.
-Nathaniel
Hi Nate. Thanks for the reply.
Imagine that you subscribed to my newsletter. In doing so, you were in my auto responder (Twitter) and received my periodic messages (pre-scheduled tweets). Now that you’re in my list, I want to send you a broadcast email message (broadcast personal message -the tool I’m looking for). To send you the message via Twitter, I could visit your twitter site (you subscribed to me and so I go to your site and click the “personal message” link and write you a message) and send you a message. Instead, I use the desired twitter tool and send you the personal message in a broadcast manner.
That’s the tool I’m looking for.
If it doesn’t exist, please let me know.
I used to own Proautoresponder.com. I own deskping.com and MLMleads.com. I’m well versed on permission-based marketing. I just don’t want to manually visit each and every one of my followers to send them a personal message.
That’s the tool I am looking for. IMO without that, twitter is a waste of my time. And probably the waste of time of a lot of others. They just don’t realize it. Yet.
I’ve seen that thousands of people will get thousands of people to follow them via Twitter.
For what?
Unless you establish a “personal” relationship, you have nothing.
Thanks in advance for your reply.
Sincerely,
Enrique Garibay

PS. If the tool does not exist, pls tell me. You’re more in touch/tune with Twitter than I. I respect your opinion.
